Privacy Policy
RoadTally is developed and operated by Usama Kashif under ButtonBird (“RoadTally,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the RoadTally mobile application. It applies specifically to RoadTally and does not automatically cover other pages, products, or services available through usamakashif.me.
1. The Short Version
RoadTally is designed as a local-first vehicle logbook.
You do not need to create an account. Your vehicle records—including fuel entries, service history, expenses, odometer readings, reminders, and notes—are stored on your device and are not uploaded to a RoadTally cloud database.
RoadTally does use limited third-party services for anonymous product analytics, advertising, purchases, and application updates. These services may process technical information as described below. We do not intentionally send your vehicle details, costs, odometer readings, registration numbers, notes, stations, or workshop names to these services.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
RoadTally may store the following information locally:
- Vehicle type, name, make, model, year, nickname, fuel type, and registration number.
- Current and historical odometer readings.
- Fuel amounts, quantities, prices, currencies, fill status, and station names.
- Service and repair types, costs, dates, workshop names, and notes.
- Other vehicle expenses and their categories.
- Service and ownership reminders.
- Currency, distance, and fuel-volume preferences.
- Manually entered currency conversion rates.
- Onboarding progress and application preferences.
This information is used to provide RoadTally’s logging, history, calculations, reminders, backup, restore, and export features.
We do not operate a user account system or a remote database containing this vehicle history.
3. Backups and CSV Exports
RoadTally allows you to create a portable backup and export your data as CSV.
These files are created only when you request them and are saved to a folder you select through your device’s system file picker. RoadTally does not automatically upload exported files to us.
Backup and CSV files can contain sensitive information, including vehicle details, registration information, financial records, odometer readings, dates, locations entered as station or workshop names, and personal notes.
These exported files are not separately encrypted by RoadTally. You are responsible for keeping them secure and for choosing carefully where you save, copy, or share them.
When restoring a backup, RoadTally validates the file before replacing the current local data. Device-specific notification identifiers are not included in a restored backup.
4. Anonymous Product Analytics
RoadTally may use PostHog to collect limited, anonymous product-usage events. This helps us understand whether important features work as intended and where the product can be improved.
Analytics may include:
- Application launches and screen names.
- Whether onboarding steps were completed.
- Whether a vehicle, entry, or reminder was created, edited, or deleted.
- The general entry type, such as fuel, service, expense, or odometer.
- Whether backup, restore, or CSV export was used.
- Advertising and purchase-flow events.
- Application version, build, operating system, operating-system version, and general device type.
- A random anonymous installation identifier used to understand activity across sessions.
Analytics does not intentionally include:
- Your name or contact information.
- Vehicle names, makes, models, registration numbers, or record identifiers.
- Amounts, currencies, fuel quantities, odometer values, or dates.
- Reminder titles.
- Station or workshop names.
- Notes or other free text.
- Precise location.
- Route parameters or notification identifiers.
- Purchase identifiers, prices, receipts, or raw store errors.
RoadTally does not use session replay, touch autocapture, surveys, advertising profiling through PostHog, or person profiles.
You can disable this analytics from Garage → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data. When analytics is disabled, queued PostHog events are cleared and new product-usage events are not sent.
Because the analytics identifier is anonymous and is not connected to a RoadTally account, we may not be able to associate previously collected analytics with a particular person.
You can review PostHog’s privacy information for more information about its practices.
5. Advertising
The free Android version of RoadTally may display advertising through Google AdMob.
Advertising may include banners on selected screens and occasional interstitial ads after a vehicle or record has been successfully created. Ads are not required to save or access vehicle records.
Google and its partners may process information such as:
- IP address.
- Device and advertising identifiers.
- General device information.
- Ad views, clicks, and interactions.
- Consent choices.
- Diagnostics and fraud-prevention information.
- Approximate location inferred from technical information, where permitted.
- Other information described in Google’s policies.
Where required, Google’s consent system may ask you to make advertising or privacy choices before ads are requested. The ads shown may be personalized or non-personalized depending on your region, consent choices, device settings, and Google’s policies.
RoadTally does not intentionally attach your vehicle records, costs, odometer readings, reminders, or notes to advertising requests.
An optional ad-free purchase removes RoadTally’s advertising. Vehicle logging, history, backups, and exports remain available without purchasing ad-free access.
Advertising-related processing may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under some privacy laws. Available controls depend on your region, Google’s consent interface, and your device or Google advertising settings.
For more information, review Google’s Privacy Policy.
6. Purchases
RoadTally uses RevenueCat to manage optional ad-free purchases and restore purchase status.
RevenueCat and the relevant application store may process:
- An anonymous application user identifier.
- Product and entitlement information.
- Purchase status.
- Store transaction and receipt information.
- Application and device information required to validate purchases.
- Related diagnostics.
RoadTally does not receive or store your complete payment-card information. Payments are processed by Google Play, Apple, or another applicable store provider.
Purchase options, prices, billing periods, and availability are supplied by the store and may vary by country or account.
For more information, review RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and the privacy policy of the store through which you made the purchase.
7. Local Notifications
RoadTally may request permission to send service or vehicle-care reminders.
These reminders are scheduled locally on your device. RoadTally does not require notification permission for logging or viewing reminders inside the app.
RoadTally does not use your notification permission to send marketing messages, and its current local-reminder system does not upload vehicle reminder content to a RoadTally notification server.
You can change notification permission through your device settings.
8. Application Updates
RoadTally may use Expo Application Services to check for and download application updates.
When this happens, Expo may process limited technical information such as your device operating system, IP address, application version, update channel, and randomized tokens used to determine whether an update has been downloaded.
This information is used to deliver and troubleshoot application updates. It does not include your RoadTally vehicle records.
For details, review Expo’s Privacy Policy.
9. Information You Send to Us
If you contact us for support, feedback, or another request, we may receive:
- Your name.
- Your email address.
- The content of your message.
- Any screenshots, backup files, device details, or other material you choose to provide.
Please do not send a RoadTally backup unless it is necessary for support and you understand that it may contain sensitive vehicle and financial information.
We use support communications to answer your request, investigate problems, improve the product, and maintain appropriate business records.
10. Permissions and Information RoadTally Does Not Request
RoadTally may request notification and file-access interactions when you use the relevant features.
RoadTally does not currently require:
- A RoadTally account.
- GPS or precise location.
- Automatic trip tracking.
- Contacts.
- Camera or photo-library access.
- Microphone access.
- Vehicle telemetry or OBD access.
A system folder or document picker may be displayed when you create, restore, or export a file. Access is limited to the files or destination you select through the operating system.
11. How Information Is Used
Information described in this policy may be used to:
- Provide RoadTally’s vehicle logging and reminder features.
- Store and calculate your vehicle history locally.
- Create and restore user-requested backups.
- Export user-requested CSV files.
- Deliver application updates.
- Display and measure advertising.
- Process and restore ad-free purchases.
- Understand anonymous product usage.
- Respond to support requests.
- Detect technical problems, abuse, or fraud.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
12. When Information Is Shared
We may share limited information with:
- PostHog, for anonymous product analytics.
- Google AdMob and its partners, for advertising, consent, measurement, and fraud prevention.
- RevenueCat, for purchase and entitlement management.
- Google Play or Apple, for application distribution and payment processing.
- Expo, for application-update delivery.
- Service providers that help us operate support or infrastructure.
- Authorities or other parties where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect legal rights and safety.
We do not intentionally provide these services with the contents of your locally stored RoadTally vehicle history.
We may also disclose information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of the product, subject to applicable law.
13. Data Retention and Deletion
Vehicle records remain on your device until you edit or delete them, use Reset all data, clear the application’s storage, or uninstall RoadTally.
Resetting RoadTally removes the locally stored vehicles, records, reminders, and settings managed by the product. It does not delete backup or CSV files that you previously saved outside the app.
Information processed by third-party services is retained according to their policies and our applicable service configuration. Some information may be retained longer where necessary for security, fraud prevention, purchase records, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
Anonymous analytics is not linked to an account, so identifying a particular person’s existing event history may not always be possible.
Support correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to the request, maintain business records, and comply with legal obligations.
14. Security
RoadTally limits the transfer of vehicle history by storing it locally and avoiding a RoadTally account or cloud database.
However, no device, storage system, transmission method, or third-party service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Your records may be accessible to someone who gains access to your unlocked device or exported files.
Use your device’s screen lock and operating-system security features, and store RoadTally backups in a secure location.
15. International Data Transfers
Third-party providers used by RoadTally may process information in countries other than the country where you live, including the United States.
Where required, providers may rely on contractual safeguards, adequacy decisions, consent, or other legal transfer mechanisms described in their respective policies.
16. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to personal information, including rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of certain information.
RoadTally already provides several direct controls:
- Edit or delete individual records.
- Delete vehicles and their associated history.
- Reset all locally stored product data.
- Create a portable backup.
- Export data as CSV.
- Disable anonymous product analytics.
- Change notification permission through device settings.
- Manage advertising choices through available consent and device controls.
- Restore eligible purchases through the app.
To make another privacy request, contact us using the address below. We may need enough information to understand and verify the request. Some requests may be limited where the information is anonymous, controlled solely by a third party, or must be retained by law.
17. Children’s Privacy
RoadTally is a general vehicle-record application and is not directed to children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children below the minimum age required by applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
18. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when RoadTally’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change.
The updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent before materially changing how information is processed.
